Home Hardware EDI requirements
Home Hardware sends purchase orders (850) by EDI and requires the 855 acknowledgment, the 856 advance ship notice and the 810 invoice back. Each order must be accepted or rejected within 6 calendar days, the ASN must be sent within the hour the shipment leaves your facility, and a late ASN or late PO response is charged $250.
The documents
| Document | Direction | What Home Hardware expects | Specification |
|---|---|---|---|
| 850 Purchase Order | From Home Hardware | Distribution centre orders, for stock suppliers. Orders placed by Home Dealers still go through your order desk. A changed order arrives as a new 850; the 860 is not used. | Read and validate |
| 997 Functional Acknowledgment | Both ways | Acknowledge every 850, at the transaction and group level, within 24 hours. Home Hardware acknowledges your ASNs the same way. | Not published yet |
| 855 Purchase Order Acknowledgment | To Home Hardware | Accept or reject each order within 6 calendar days. A reject carries the reason and opens a negotiation of up to 7 days; it ends with an 855 accept. | Read and validate |
| 856 Ship Notice/Manifest | To Home Hardware | Sent within the hour the order leaves your facility, never before. One unique ASN number per shipment, several POs allowed, and the ASN number on the bill of lading. SSCC labels on pallets and cartons. | Read and validate |
| 810 Invoice | To Home Hardware | Every distribution centre and direct-to-store shipment, including dealer orders that did not arrive by EDI. Bill to Alliance International LLC, with the PO number on every invoice. | Read and validate |
Deadlines and compliance targets
- PO response: an 855 accept or reject within 6 calendar days of the order. An order cannot stay rejected longer than 7 days.
- Ship window: from 7 calendar days before to 2 days after the requested ship date, for North American and prepaid import orders.
- ASN: within the hour the shipment leaves your facility, so it arrives before the goods. It must be available when the truck arrives.
- 997: within 24 hours of each 850.
- Targets: a 95% fill rate, and delivery by appointment on or before the PO due date, one appointment per trailer.

How you connect
New suppliers start on Commport’s web portal, and Home Hardware says suppliers may use the EDI provider of their choice once it is set up and tested with its in-house EDI team. Weredi exchanges documents directly over AS2, SFTP or FTP: ask Home Hardware’s EDI team which connection it will set up for your account.

Questions buyers ask
What EDI documents does Home Hardware require?
Home Hardware sends the 850 purchase order for its distribution centres and requires the 855 PO acknowledgment, the 856 advance ship notice and the 810 invoice back, plus a 997 for every 850 within 24 hours. The 860 is not used: a changed order arrives as a new 850.
How long do I have to accept a Home Hardware purchase order?
Six calendar days from the order, with an 855 accept or reject. A rejected order opens a negotiation that cannot last more than 7 days and ends with an 855 accept. Missing either window is a $250 fee.
When do I send the ASN to Home Hardware?
Within the hour the shipment leaves your facility, and never before. A late or early ASN is a $250 fee, and an ASN whose quantity or cost does not match what was received is $250 per invoice.
Do I have to use Commport for Home Hardware EDI?
No. New suppliers start on Commport’s portal, but Home Hardware accepts other EDI providers once they are set up and tested with its in-house EDI team. Until then, your first orders may still come through Commport.
