Home Depot EDI requirements (U.S.)

EDI is The Home Depot’s preferred way to exchange business documents with suppliers, and a new supplier’s EDI testing should take 15 business days or less. At its distribution centres, the ASN must arrive before the shipment: a missing ASN costs $1,000 and a late one $250, and missing the 98% fill rate or 90% on-time target costs 10% of the items short or late.

Testing and compliance targets

  • Testing: Home Depot decides with each new supplier whether it certifies through EDI or a third-party web solution. EDI suppliers test every document they will use, in the Commerce Desk system, within 15 business days.
  • ASN: 100% on time, with the correct TMS shipment ID. An ASN not received before the receipt is keyed counts as missing; one received after the drop counts as late.
  • Fill rate: 98% of the ordered quantity received at the distribution centre.
  • On time: 90%. Prepaid orders must arrive by the expected delivery date; collect orders must be marked ready to ship in TMS by 11:00 a.m. local time, 2 days before pickup.
  • Labels: GS1-compliant carton labels, with fewer than 1% of cartons rejected by the distribution centre scanners.

For shipments to Home Depot’s U.S. distribution centres and stores, as summarized by SPS Commerce (updated March 12, 2024); your supplier agreement is what applies. Offsets are disputed in the Supplier Performance Management (SPM) app; distribution centre offsets disputed elsewhere are denied, and transportation offsets, issued the first week of the month, can be disputed for one month.
